AFC Asian Cup Match: Korea vs. Japan [Asia Economy Daily]

The 2011 Asian cup match between South Korea and Japan ranked No.1 on last week’s weekly TV charts, according to the results of two media research surveys disclosed on Monday.

During the week of January 24 to 30, the football match for the 2011 Asian Cup which was aired on Tuesday, marked a viewership rating of 35.3 percent on Total National Multimedia National Research’s (TNmS) chart and 37.7 percent on AGB Nielsen Media's (AGB) chart, respectively.

The semi-final match initially ended 2:2 but Japan was deemed the winner after a penalty shootout where Korea blew all of its attempts and lost 3-0.

KBS daily drama “Smile Again” starring Ji Chang-wook, Do Ji-won and Oh Ji-eun, came second after posting an average viewership rating of 33.9 percent on TNmS’ survey and 34.1 percent on AGB’s chart. Both figures are improvements of one to two percent in average from last time.

During the last few episodes, Hye-sook (played by Jeong Ae-ri) who came to learn that it was Anna (Do) who was her husband’s old lover all along, confronts her and tells her to leave the country while her husband starts asking her for a divorce.

Sunday variety show “Happy Sunday” came in at third with viewership ratings of 23.4 percent and 25.5 percent on TNmS and AGB’s findings, respectively.

Other shows included in the weekly chart for top 10 shows were KBS’ “My Love, My Family,” “KBS 9 o’clock News,” KBS’ “Gag Concert,” “MBC’s “Infinite Challenge,” SBS’ “Star King,” MBC’s “Flames of Desire,” and SBS “Sign.”
