Boy band TVXQ has achieved platinum status with their latest single ¡°Why (Keep Your Head Down)¡± in Japan, according to the official website of the Record Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ).

"Why," from the boys 31st single album in the country and released under the same name on January 26, sold over 250,000 copies to be certified a Platinum disc.

Under RIAJ's criteria, singles and albums which sell over 100,000 copies are certified Gold, 250,000 as Platinum and one million as Million.

"Why" had sold 231,000 copies in just six days of its release, ranking No.1 on the prestigious Oricon weekly singles chart on the same week and placed first again on Oricon monthly singles chart.

The feat follows TVXQ's previous achievement with their first best album ¡°Best Selection 2010¡± that won the group double platinum status in March, last year.

TVXQ, formerly composed of five members Hero Jaejoong, Mickey Yuchun, Max Changmin and U-Know Yunho, enjoyed high popularity throughout Asia as one the leading dance groups in K-pop scene since their debut in 2004.

However, after disputing with agency SM Entertainment over the unfairness of their 13-year exclusive contract, Jaejoong, Yuchun and Junsu halted their activities as TVXQ and instead formed trio JYJ.

TVXQ is now a duo group led by two remaining members Changmin and Yunho who have been busy promoting "Why" in Korea which is the group¡¯s first album released after two-year long hiatus in the country.
