Herbie Hancock, dubbed the king of modern jazz, will visit Korea in May for the first time in eight years, notified concert¡¯s organizer Southern Star on Friday.

According to a press release by Southern Star, Herbie Hancock will come to Seoul to hold a concert titled ¡°Herbie Hancock & The Imagine Project Band Live in Seoul¡± at the Peace Hall of Kyung Hee University on May 10.

Hancock, born in 1940, was considered a child prodigy since the early days of his life and performed to Mozart¡¯s Piano Concerto No.5 alongside Chicago Symphony at age eleven.

He debuted with the album ¡°Takin Off¡± in 1962 and made his first breakthrough with 1983 single ¡°Rockit¡± which was followed by other hit albums ¡°Head Hunters¡± (1973) that incorporated jazz with funk, soul and R&B, ¡°Future Shock¡± (1983) with rock, pop and electronica.

He became a frequent nominee and a winner of the Grammy Awards from 1984 onward, collecting 14 Grammys in total; seven in the jazz category, two in R&B and one in pop as well a as few more in the field of Original Score and Best Instrumental Compositions.

At the 50th Grammy Award in 2008 in particular, he won the Album of the Year award, becoming the first jazz artist to win the honor.

Last year, a new album named ¡°The Imagine Project¡± which he made in collaboration with many famed artists around the world including Jeff Beck, Dave Matthews, Los Lobos was released to celebrate his 70th birthday.

In line, he will perform with the Imagine Project Band for his upcoming concert in Korea. Composed of Greg Phillinganes from group Toto who will play the keyboard, Kristina Train the vocal, James Genus the bass and Trevor Lawrence Jr. the drum, they already performed with Herbie Hancock at the Nobel Awards Ceremony last year.

Ticket reservations will be available starting March 25 at online shopping website Interpark.
