¡°The King¡¯s Speech¡± has topped Korea's latest weekend box office, jumping a spot from the previous week, notified the Korean Box Office Information System (KOBIS) on Monday.
¡°The King¡¯s Speech,¡± starring Colin Firth, Geoffrey Rush and Helena Bonham Carter, attracted 173,231 viewers after opening in a total 404 theaters nationwide during the final weekend of March.
The film is based on the true story of late King George VI of England who, with the help of an Australian linguist therapist, struggled to get rid of his stammer in order to be able to address his people properly.
Meanwhile, previous winner ¡°World Invasion: Battle Los Angeles,¡± which switched places with "The King's Speech," landed at No. 2, after selling a total 168,636 tickets during the past three-day period.
¡°World Invasion,¡± starring Aaron Eckhart, Ramon Rodriguez and Cory Hardrict, is about the Marine Corps and other military forces joining to fight back hostile alien forces that landed on earth
Local film ¡°Little Black Dress¡± starring Yoon Eun-hye, Park Han-byul, Cha Ye-ryun and Yoo In-na debuted on third place, collecting 139,980 audiences in 405 theaters nationwide after premiering last Thursday.
¡°Little Black Dress,¡± which is based on novelist Kim Min-seo¡¯s 2009 story of the same name, portrays the life and thoughts of four lively and fashionable girls in their 20s who share a passion for black mini-dresses.
Other films that showed up on top 10 list were ¡°Late Blossom,¡± ¡°Dangerous Meeting,¡± (tentative title), ¡°Red Riding Hood,¡± ¡°Black Swan,¡± ¡°Romantic Heaven,¡± ¡°Morning Glory¡± and ¡°My Name Is Khan.¡±
