Director Jang Eun-young's short film "Helping Hand" has won two awards at a Britih film competition for amateur filmmakers.

The website for the IAC British International Amateur Film Competition (BIAFC) 2011 showed Friday that the 24-minute film won the Daily Mail Trophy as best film, a Diamond Award, and its star Kim Junhong the recognition for best actor.

The pic revolves around a boy named Jong Gi, with learning disabilities, who lives in the countryside. On top of being assaulted and harassed by his boss, he is misunderstood when he is with his crush Bora, the daughter of the local supermarket, and taken to the police.

"Violence is the biggest problem affecting human beings. But this film is about the loss of innocence concerning pain," director Jang said of the movie on BIAFC's website.

The pic has won several other awards, including gold at UNICA's World Amateur Film Festival last year, the world champion prize for independent films and gold at the Seoul World Short Fim & Video Festival.
