Big Bang member Daesung [YG Entertainment] |
YG Entertainment has delayed their weekly live Internet broadcast show and the release date of girl group 2NE1's new song, both originally set for today, by a week.
The information came through their agency YG's official blog on Friday while apologizing for the belated announcement of the decision, saying it "came amid pressing matters" which refers to their artist Big Bang member Daesung's involvement in a car accident which has resulted in a death.
Since late April, 2NE1 had promoted their upcoming mini-album by releasing a song from it every three weeks and gave performances on it through YG's own Internet broadcaster "YG ON AIR."
The statement then went onto explain Daesung's current state, saying he is currently "having a very hard time, staying alone in his room and refusing to even speak to his family."
"This was expected yet what we are worried about since he is the type that is always blaming himself for any sort of bad occurring," YG added.
Then YG said, "Probably even from now on... What Daesung is currently going through may be the hardest time of his life."
"What he is going through is nothing compared to the pain the family of the deceased feels right now but most people who have been in such huge shock or incidents are bound to suffer from secondary psychological damage which could last months, years, or even for the rest of their lives," YG explained.
"Hence, what we are worried about is that he has been put under huge shock when he has barely managed to overcome his shock from his life-threatening accident in 2009," YG wrote, referring to the car accident from which Daesung fractured his nose and orbital bones on his way back from a shoot.
"We hope that Daesung will be able to lay down at least a little bit of the huge burden he feels through fast and accurate investigation into the case," YG stated.
Early on Tuesday, Daesung ran into a taxi and motorcyclist at the end of Yanghwa Bridge in Seoul and while the taxi driver suffered minor injuries, the motorcyclist is dead.
Police said the taxi's driver had stopped his vehicle to call police after discovering the motorcyclist on the ground and bleeding, apparently from another accident, when Daesung hit them after failing to see them in time.
Police are now carrying out further investigation into whether Daesung was the cause of the death.
Daesung is a member of Big Bang, one of the most popular boy bands in Korea since their debut in 2006 with numerous hit songs under their belt.
He is also currently one of the show hosts of SBS's weekly talk show "Night After Night" and was also set to start working with his group on their next album.
