Girls' Generation [SM Entertainment]

The date and stage for Girls' Generation's upcoming performance at Japan's Summer Sonic Festival has been announced.

The official website of the music fest revealed on Wednesday that the nine-member girl group will be the guest stars on the Mountain Stage during the 2011 Summer Sonic Festival in Tokyo on August 14.

Other international artists who will grace the stage will include P.i.L (Public Image Limited), The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, House of Pain, Friendly Fires, Two Door Cinema Club, Yelle, the telephones, Gypsy & The Cat with the opening act performance from Fear, and Loathing in Las Vegas.

Meanwhile, fellow SM Entertainment labelmate BoA will also perform on the same stage a day before Girls' Generation. This feat has made both idols the first female Korean artists to take part in the major music event.

Girls’ Generation, composed of members Taeyeon, Tiffany, Hyoyeon, Sunny, Jessica, Seohyun, Yoona, Yuri and Sooyoung, is currently one of the most well-known female idol groups in Asia which made their debut in Korea in 2007.

They expanded their careers into Japan in August of last year where they have enjoyed much success, becoming the first Korean girl group to place No. 1 on the Oricon chart and winning gold disc status several times.

The girls recently wrapped up their Japan tour and held their second concert in Korea last month.
