Actor Christian Bale of the "Batman" series has been asked to play the main character of the U.S. remake of smash hit Korean thriller "Old Boy."
Hollywood entertainment media outlet Variety reported on Wednesday (U.S. time) that Bale has been handed the role of a villain in the movie, originally played by actor Choi Min-shik in director Park Chan-wook's 2003 pic.
Spike Lee, famed director, producer, writer and actor is set to helm the remake of the film which won the Grand Prix at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival alongside other critical acclaim.
However, Bale has declared he will not make a decision until he wraps up filming of "The Dark Knight Rises" later this fall, Variety said.
Even when he does, he will have several high-profile projects to choose from -- a remake of "A Star Is Born" starring Beyonce Knowles and directed by Clint Eastwood; Michael Mann-directed "Gold"; Scott Cooper's "Out of the Furnace"; and Darren Aronofsky's biblical epic "Noah" at Paramount.
Bale, 37, started acting at the young age of eight and ever since, has starred in numerous noteworthy films including "Batman Begins" (2005), "The Dark Knight" (2008), "Terminator Salvation" (2009) and "The Fighter" (2010).
