자연을 만나러 자연으로 떠난다. 화선지 화판을 들고 그것들 앞에서 많은 생각을 갖게 한다. 겸허함을 배우고 새로운 깨달음을 얻고 갈 때마다 색다른 경험에 스케치는 늘 가슴이 설렌다.

I leave into the nature to meet it. I think of many things in front of it with my canvas. When I return after I learn the modesty and awake to the freshness, I am always excited to go sketching for new experiences.

아름다운 나들이, 78×70cm 화선지에 수묵 담채, 2002

작은 골짜기에 오르는 그 길옆에는 늘 계절마다 내가 만나고 싶고 기다렸던 아름다운 것들이 날 기다린다. 옆에 두고도 가까이 하지 못했던 것, 너무 가까이에 있어 보이지 않았던 것, 마음에 두지 못했던 것을 길 옆 들꽃을 통해 새롭게 발견하게 된다.

There are beautiful things, which I always wait to see in every season, beside the path to climb to a little valley. Things that I could not see though having it near, Things that I could not see because it was too close, Things that I could not put in my mind I could find out them newly through the wild flowers beside the path

아름다움의 본질이란 자연보다는 우리의 가슴속에 내재되어 있다는 사실을 깨닫게 한다. 나는 모든 사람처럼 예쁜 꽃을 보며 감동하는 지극히 평범하며 소박한 생각을 가지고 산다.

In other words, the true nature of beauty is not the nature but our minds. I have just the normal thought to see a flower and impress about its beauty like the others do.

봄을 보다, 83×33cm 화선지에 수묵 담채, 2009

햇빛에 녹아내리는 눈은 초침과 분침처럼 움직여간다. 어떤 때는 천천히 그리고 갑자기 움직이기도 한다. 매우 아름답고 황홀하게 또한 감동적으로 돌아간다. 천천히 빠르게 녹아내리는 흰 눈이 붓을 타고 화선지로 옮겨 스며든다.

The snow melting in the sunshine is moving like the second hand and the minute hand. It was a clock. Sometimes it moves fast, and sometimes it moves slowly. Sometimes it spins so beautifully and also touchingly. Slowly, and quickly the melting snow is soaked into my canvas by riding a brush.

고가의 해질녘, 70×40cm 화선지에 수묵 담채, 1997

눈이 오는 날이면 김이 모락모락 나는 찻잔을 앞에 두고 많은 생각들을 만들어 본다. 행복한 생각들과 아름다운 꿈들을 눈 속 깊은 곳에 담아두고 언제든지 꺼내 보고 넣어 주는 그런 여백의 창고와 공간을 만들려 한다.

When it snows, I think of many things with a steaming cup of tea. I'm going to make a space and a warehouse so that I can put my happy thoughts and beautiful dreams into the deep inside of the snow and bring them out and put them back when I need.

시월의 기억을 위하여, 115×70cm 화선지에 수묵 담채, 1998

나의 작업은 화선지에 수묵과 담채로 표현하는 수묵한국화로 전통적인 도구와 재료를 활용한 표현 방법이다.

My work is SuMuk Korean painting expressed by India ink and light coloring, and it is a method of expression which uses traditional tools and materials.

자신의 내면에 흐르고 있는 감성, 생활 속에 녹아있는 우리의 정서, 이런 친숙한 생활양식과 정감이 표현으로 녹아있는 한국화를 더욱 기초와 본질적인 뿌리를 찾는 표현에 노력하고 싶다.

I want to draw Korean paintings which have the sensitivity flowing in ourselves and the sentiment lying latent in our lives, and I also want to make an effort to express it to seek for its origin and root.
