“There's a poodle-like actor,” is how director Song Hyun-wook introduced me to writer Suh Yoo-sun. That's why I went into a rage and said, "What do you mean poodle! I'm like doberman!" So which am I? Of course the director would win. [laughs]
When I played the younger version of actor Park Sang-won's character in SBS TV series "Sandglass," I was in fifth grade. And I lived with the crew of the show for about a month in Jeongseon of the Gangwon Province for it. I pursued acting only because I wanted to so I didn't get any support from my mother except for our family moving because I had a hard time going to the broadcasting studio and her buying a bicycle for me?
I once looked for job opportunities on cable channels. Because I considered doing something other than acting. But there was nothing I could do. It's not like I know how to weld or be an accountant. I'm basically a fool in society.
Having been a member of Moonchild is something I'm proud of now. But it actually hadn't felt that great in my mid-twenties. I wondered, 'Why do I still have to be called Moonchild when I'm acting.' And I thought I only had nightmares and tough memories from those times but I came to think of it more positively as I grew older and came to think more about the good memories. Even my Twitter ID is @moonchild7824.
The three minutes I was on stage was the only time I was happy. Other than that, I couldn't eat or sleep properly and I wasn't allowed to go out of our house. All I was thinking was that I want to live like the average human being. So during the year that I took a brief break, I enjoyed all the freedom I want. It's probably the time that I drank the most as well.
I was greedy about being good at music. That's why I studied harmonics and received tutoring on music composition. I also kept buying instruments with the thought that I don't want to let go of music but I lost interest when I stopped getting better. So I sold all my instruments...
Everytime I drink I miss my fans a lot. That's why I'd sometimes write on our fan cafe after I drank. But I'm trying to refrain from doing that now because it's gotten embarrassing because I'm older. Oh, the guys said we should get together in December to celebrate the year-end although I don't know how much we'll end up drinking. [laughs]
The director of a headquarter is a role I'd like to play at least once before I die. But more than that, I'd like to play a character that somehow looks forlorn yet has pathos.
I can't bear being tied down to one spot. I wither or run away! I think I'm even more like this because I went through the harsh time of having no freedom in the past. I hate it!
I'd like to study situation comedy. I'd like to learn about comedies where you interact with the audience so I'll be appearing in theatrical play "Boeing Boeing." When you look at Song Sae-byuk, he does acting where he himself won't laugh at all but will make the audience shriek with laughter. And I think that all comes his experience on the theatrical stage. So I'm not trying to become a comical actor but I'd like to be able to accumulate and use ideas that'll be timely and make people laugh.
