Boy band 2AM member Jeong Jinwoon, girl group SISTAR member Hyolyn and actress Kang Sora will appear in season 2 of hit TV series "Dream High."

The news came on Tuesday through the show's producers CJ Media and Holym Co., the latter a drama production company set up through the joint investment of agencies KEYEAST and JYP Entertainment.

In the series, set for a premiere on January 30 of next year, Jeong will play Jin Yoo-jin who dreams to be a rock star but is also a troublemaker full of airs.

Hyolyn will play Nana, a girl with a gift for music and also the lead vocalist of a girl group named Hush while Kang will take on Shin Hae-sung, an aspiring idol star who learned music through words.

T-ara Jiyeon, who was cast for the series last week, will also play a member of Hush but will have become famous for her weak acting skills.

In the meantime, SM Entertainment had been in discussions to take part in production of the show as well but has decided not to.

"It was hard to work out the schedule between the singers and the drama's shoots because they have a lot of activities overseas," a producer with the series explained.

The first "Dream High" series which showed early this year told about students who attend a performing arts school aimed at cultivating celebrities and starred Korean actor Kim Soo-hyun and idol singers Bae Suzy from girl group miss A, Ham Eun-jung of T-ara, songstress IU, and Ok Taecyeon and Jang Wooyoung from boy band 2PM.

Jinwoon, the youngest member of pop quartet 2AM which has been one of the most popular ballad groups in the country since their debut in 2008, has also led a solo singing career.

Hyolyn is the lead vocalist of her popular girl group SISTAR, also composed of members Bora, Soyou and Dasom, which debuted just last year.

Kang made her debut in 2009 through horror film "4th Period Mystery" alongside actor Yoo Seung-ho. She recently starred in the summer blockbuster film "Sunny" and KBS' daily series "My Bittersweet Life."
