Korean-American actor Daniel Henney has been honored with an award at the 2012 Newport Beach Film Festival.

The film festival's official website showed on Monday that Henney was handed the Outstanding Achievement Award for his work in the film "Shanghai Calling," which was chosen as the closing film for the event held in Newport Beach, California from April 26 to May 3.

Along with Henney, Ernest Borgnine of "The Man who Shook the Hand of Vicente Fernandez" and Geoffrey Arend and Lizzy Caplan of "Save the Date" received the same award.

"Shanghai Calling," helmed by director Daniel Hsia, tells the story of a New York attorney (Henney) getting involved in serious legal issues in Shanghai, where he has been sent for a business trip.

His career hanging by the thread due to the events, he gets the help of a relocation specialist to escape from the conundrum and falls in love with Amanda (Eliza Coupe).

The romantic comedy pic, also starring Bill Paxton, will open at the Los Angeles Pacific Film Festival on May 10 and at the Director's Guild of America.

Born in Michigan to a Korean-American mother and an American father of British descent, Henney made his debut in the Korean entertainment business with "My Name is Kim Sam Soon"(MBC, 2005) in 2005.

While best known for appearing in "Kim Sam Soon," the model-turned-actor also starred in "Fugitive: Plan B" (KBS, 2010). In the United States, Henney had roles in Hollywood pic "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" and U.S drama "Three Rivers."

Currently, Henny is working on an upcoming film titled "Mister K" alongside actors Sul Kyung-gu and Moon Sori.
