Korean boy group 2PM¡¯s Japanese debut single has been ranked No. 1 on a major music chart in Thailand.
According to the showings by Thailand¡¯s website for Asia-wide music channel V, the six-member band¡¯s first Japanese single ¡°Take Off¡± topped Thai Channel V¡¯s Asian Chart as of June 4.
¡°Words can hardly describe the gratitude we feel toward the many fans of ours who love our song and take interest in our activities,¡± 2PM's members were quoted as saying in the statement from their agency JYP Entertainment on Wednesday.
¡°Take Off," released in Japan on May 18, sold 59,000 copies during its first week to claim the No. 4 spot on the prestigious weekly Oricon singles chart as well as becoming the group to sell most number of debut albums among K-pop artists there.
The same single also topped several other record and mobile charts in Japan including those of Tower Records, USEN, J-Pop Chart, Uta Net Mobile and RecoChoku.
The title track which shares the name with the album, is also being used as the ending theme to Japanese animation ¡°Blue Exorcist¡± that has been on air since April 17.
Meanwhile, the group, having returned from their schedule in Japan earlier today, will now begin working on their new album set for release sometime later this month.
Composed of members Nichkhun, Wooyoung, Junho, Chansung, Junsu and Taecyeon, 2PM has been one of the most popular boy bands in Korea since their debut in August 2008, holding numerous hits under their belt including ¡°10 out of 10,¡± ¡°Again & Again,¡± ¡°Only You¡± and "Without You."
