Nikunj JINSI

Global Head, Venture Capital, International Finance Corporation (IFC)

Nikunj Jinsi has over 25 years of venture capital investment experience. Mr Jinsi joined the International Finance Corporation (IFC) in 2003 and heads a team of over 30 investment professionals at IFC’s Venture Capital investment team globally.

The VC team has built a direct portfolio in leading emerging market technology companies, of over $600mm, and demonstrated consistent profitability over the past 15 years. Mr. Jinsi has led over 70 VC transactions, several of which have had successful exits, for which IFC acted as a (co-)lead, involving other leading VC/private equity and strategic players. He has taken on board positions on several of IFC’s portfolio companies. In addition, Mr. Jinsi also leads LP investments in leading EM VC fund managers, having made over 25 LP investments for a total of over $400mm. Mr. Jinsi has spoken at various high-profile investor conferences and media events. Prior to joining IFC in Washington DC, Mr. Jinsi spent nine years living and working in Asia. He was a Managing Director for one of Asia's leading venture funds. Earlier Nikunj spent four years in the Asian TMT investment banking industry providing M&A and corporate finance services to clients throughout the region.

In addition, he was the co-owner of South East Asia's largest independent marketing communications agency. Mr. Jinsi started his career working as a Project Engineer/Manager at KPN, in The Hague in The Netherlands. Nikunj has an MBA degree from Stanford University, which he attended as a Fulbright Scholar, and an MSc. degree in Electrical Engineering, from Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands.

Before joining Zhejiang University as a full-time professor in May 2014, Dr. Ben served in financial services firms like ABN AMRO, HSBC and lastly JP Morgan Chase as CEO, JP Morgan Chase Bank (China) Co Ltd.

Dr. Ben is well-trusted advisor to public and private organizations. He is Joint Chairman of Zhejiang Association of Internet Finance; Executive Director, International Monetary Institute, Renmin University of China; Counselor to Zhejiang Provincial Government and a member of Standing Committee & Vice Chairman of its Economic Commission of Zhejiang CPPCC. He is also a nonexecutive board director of leading companies including China International Capital Corporation, Tsingtao Brewery and Bank of Ningbo. A well-sought-after speaker at home and abroad, Dr. Ben has published many articles and books in fintech and international finance, including In Pursuit of Presence & Prominence - Chinese Banks Going Global (Zhejiang University Press and Springer 2018). Dr. Ben has a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Tsinghua University, a Master’s degree in management from Renmin University of China and Ph.D. degree in Economics from Purdue University, USA. His research areas include: International Finance, New Finance (Internet Finance, FinTech, Entrepreneurial Finance), Global Business.

LEE Yoonsok

Senior Research Fellow, Korea Institute of Finance(KIF)

Dr. Yoonsok Lee is a Senior Research Fellow of the Macroeconomic and International Finance Research Division at the Korea Institute of Finance (KIF). The Institute is the most prominent institution in Korea that is specialized in financial research. It provides policy reports to, but not limited to, the President, Ministry of Strategy and Finance (MOSF), Financial Services Commission (FSC), Korea Financial Intelligence Unit (KoFIU) and various other financial authorities. Dr. Lee has contributed to various columns in the media and is a distinguished expert in the area of international finance, banking and money laundering. Dr. Lee worked as a portfolio manager in the Reserves Management Office at the Bank of Korea (i.e. Central Bank) during 1995~1999. During the summer of 1997, Dr. Lee worked as a summer associate at Goldman Sachs, NY. He was also a research assistant at the NBER during 2004~2005. He served as committee member for Active Global Fixed Income Search Committee at Korea Investment Corporation (KIC) in 2007. He was also a committee member of the Fund Investment Oversight and Training Committee (FOTC) during 2009. He also served as a member of the Self-Regulatory Review Committee at the Ministry of Strategy and Finance and is currently a non-permanent member of the Exchange Rate Risk Management Committee at the Korea Land and Housing Corporation. He was also a visiting scholar of School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University (2012~2013).

His research field covers various aspects of the financial arena including the foreign exchange market, international finance, banking analysis and anti-money laundering issues. Dr. Lee earned his B.A. in Economics from Seoul National University and M.A. and Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Sameer SAWHNEY

CEO, SREI Infrastructure Finance, India

Sameer Sawhney is CEO of Srei Infrastructure Finance Limited, a Kanoria Foundation entity and one of India's largest holistic infrastructure financial institutions. At Srei, Sameer leads a team of more than 100 professionals and oversees USD 5.5 billion of consolidated assets under management. He is responsible for expanding Srei's businesses profitably both in India and overseas, developing strong customer relationships and bringing in operational excellence in functioning.

Prior to joining Srei, Sameer was Regional CEO and Managing Director, South East Asia and India, ANZ Bank Ltd, responsible for driving the business, customer and country strategy across the bank's key markets of Singapore, India, Indonesia, Philippines and Malaysia.

Sameer has over two decades of experience in Financial Services industry, and has held senior leadership roles in global banks across Corporate & Investment Banking (C&IB), Transaction Banking, Global Markets and Private Banking businesses. Having worked in several countries across Asia, Australia, Middle East and Europe, and America, it has allowed Sameer to gain a deep understanding of both Emerging and Developed markets and develop strong relationships, at the C-suite level, with some of the largest Corporates, Financial Institutions, Regulators and Thought Leaders across the region.

Sameer was a member of many Leadership groups within the bank and was also sponsor for quite a few initiatives, including Digital strategy and has also served the bank's Diversity Committee, which was chaired by CEO of ANZ Group.

Sameer started his banking career with ANZ Grindlays Bank in India and is a Chartered Accountant by profession. He is married with two children and enjoys golf and reading.

Naoyuki YOSHINO

Dean & CEO of Asian Development Bank Institute(ADBI) & Professor of Emeritus of Keio University, Japan

Naoyuki Yoshino is Dean & CEO of the Asian Development Bank Institute (ADB Institute); Professor Emeritus of Keio University, in Tokyo, Japan; and Senior Adviser at the Japan Financial Services Agency’s (FSA) Financial Research Center (FSA Institute). He obtained his PhD from Johns Hopkins University, where his thesis supervisor was Sir Alan Walters (who was Margaret Thatcher’s Economic Adviser). He was a visiting scholar at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (United States) and has been a visiting professor at various universities including the University of New South Wales (Australia), Fondation Nationale des Sciences Politiques (France), University of Gothenburg (Sweden) and Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg (Germany). He was an Assistant Professor at the State University of New York at Buffalo and an Economics Professor at Keio University from 1991 to 2014. He was appointed board of the Financial Planning Standards Board in 2007, and also served as chairperson of the Japanese Ministry of Finance’s council on Foreign Exchange and its Fiscal System Council (Fiscal Investment and Loan Program Section). He was also a board member of the Deposit Insurance Corporation of Japan, chairperson of the Meeting of Japanese Government Bond Investors (Ministry of Finance), and was President of the Financial System Council of the Government of Japan. He was conferred honorary doctorates by the University of Gothenburg (Sweden) in 2004 and by Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg (Germany) in 2013; he also received the Fukuzawa Award from Keio University for his contribution to academic research in 2013. He teaches “Financial System of Japan” at the University on Air through nationwide television network in Japan every week. He is the President of Financial Education Council organized by the Central Bank of Japan, Financial Services Agency (FSA), Ministry of Education, Cabinet Ministry and private financial institutions.

PARK, Kwangwoo

Professor and Head, KAIST Graduate School of Finance

Kwangwoo Park is Professor of Finance and the Head of Graduate School of Finance at KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology) in Seoul, Korea. Dr. Park was a Fulbright Senior Scholar at the University of Hawaii until March 2018. He received his PhD in finance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and has Bachelor's degree in Business from Yonsei University in Seoul. Prior to joining KAIST, Dr. Park has taught at Chung-Ang University in Seoul. Dr. Park also taught at the University of Missouri-Columbia where he got a PhD in economics. His current areas of research interest include financial intermediation and international corporate governance. He has been publishing a number of articles in top finance journals including the Journal of Finance, the Review of Financial Studies and the Journal of Banking and Finance among others. Dr. Park currently serves as the Editor of the Asia Pacific Journal of Financial Studies which is the first journal listed in the Social Science Citation Index in the region. Dr. Park was also a research fellow for many leading institutions such as the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, the Bank of Korea (the central bank), and Korea Corporate Governance Service, and has been serving as a member of the advisory committees for the Korea Fair Trade Commission, Financial Service Commission, and the Office of the Prime Minister in Korea.

Xiaonian XU

Professor of Economics and Finance, China Europe International Business School(CEIBS), China

Dr. Xiaonian Xu is Professor of Economics and Finance at CEIBS. He worked for China International Capital Corporation Limited (CICC) since 1999 as Managing Director and Head of Research. Prior to CICC, Dr. Xu was Senior Economist with Merrill Lynch Asia Pacific based in Hong Kong from 1997 to 1998. He worked as a consultant of the World Bank in Washington DC in 1996. Dr. Xu was appointed Assistant Professor of Amherst College, Massachusetts, from 1991 to 1995, teaching Economics and Financial Markets. He was employed by the State Development Research Center of China as a research fellow from 1981 to 1985.

Dr. Xu obtained Ph.D. in Economics, University of California, Davis, in 1991, and MA in Industrial Economics in 1981 from People's University of China. He received Sun Yefang Economics Prize in 1996, the highest Chinese award in the field, for his research on China's capital markets. His research interests include: Macroeconomics, Finance, Financial Institutions and Financial Markets, Transitional Economies, and China's Economic Reform.

박준영

Joon Y. PARK

Head of IFC Korea

Mr. Joon Young Park joined IFC World Bank in Seoul as IFC’s Resident Representative for Korea. Mr. Park will be leading origination of new business opportunities in 2016 for IFC with a focus on outbound investments by Korean corporates and will be responsible for IFC’s engagement with the Korean government and for managing IFC’s presence in Korea.

Before joining IFC, Mr. Park was a Senior Banker in the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) based in London for over six years where he focused on equity investments in financial institutions. Mr. Park has managed large teams in various countries as the lead banker, originating and executing complex transactions such as EBRD’s first equity investment in Turkey and the first with an Asian financial sponsor. He has also been a Board member in portfolio companies.

Prior to EBRD in London, Mr. Park has had 11 years of M&A and private equity experience in Seoul, New York and Hong Kong of which he spent 8 years in Lehman Brothers. At Lehman Brothers, he led many transactions after the Asian financial crisis and also advised global private equity firms, particularly in cross-border transactions when he was a Senior Vice President and Head of M&A for Korea. Prior to Lehman Brothers, Mr. Park was an Associate in Rothschild Inc. and an Analyst in the M&A team in Credit Suisse First Boston.

Mr. Park holds a BS in Business and Administration from Yonsei University, Korea and an MBA from Keio Business School of Keio University, Japan.

Brad KIM

Managing Director of Macquarie Capital Korea

Brad Kim has been with Macquarie since 2000, focusing on infrastructure and utilities. With a focus on development and financing of complex Greenfield projects, he has worked in Australia, Asia and the Middle East. During this time, Brad was a founding member of Macquarie’s infrastructure advisory teams in Korea and UAE, and has worked on the establishment of a number of specialized infrastructure funds.

Brad has worked on transactions in power, transport and utilities and has worked closely with both private and public sector clients to develop bespoke solutions for infrastructure and utilities projects, especially in emerging markets on Greenfield transactions.

Based in Seoul since July 2016, Brad now leads Macquarie Capital investment activities in Korea and also covers infrastructure and utilities transactions in Asia with a particular focus on South East Asia project financing.
